Gifted Interview #6 | Lara Smith

The Gifted Interview asks gifted and talented adults about their relationship with (their) giftedness in order to demystify, inspire and blossom with this difference.

Today, Lara Smith gives us her vision of giftedness through the “gifted interview” and thus continues my series to share on Giftedness. Thank you, Lara! She is a business unit manager in France.

.IF I COULD CHOOSE, WOULD I STILL BE GIFTED?

Yes. When I was a kid I used to think “how great it must be to be gifted!!! “without ever realising that I was.

.WHAT (MY OWN) GIFTEDNESS MEANS TO ME

Above all, someone who doesn’t function like other people.

He/she never thinks the same, faster, and never aspires to the same things as the majority of people. Feel constantly out of step, unable to know what to say, when, and to whom without being taken for an alien!

.IF I HAD TO CHOOSE AN IMAGE OR A KEYWORD THAT SUMS UP WHAT GIFTEDNESS MEANS

A nice virus… constantly mutating in a normal world…

.HOW LONG HAVE I KNOWN ABOUT IT?

7 years.

.WHAT PHASES HAVE I GONE THROUGH SINCE MY DISCOVERY?

Burdened, curious, refusing the subject, curious again, doubtful, persevering in discovering more deeply the subject, then the light at the end of the tunnel, an opportunity to catch to finally reach one’s potential, to make the revolution and achieve what someone really wants without ever again devaluing and doubting oneself! The absolute victory!

. HOW DO I EXPLAIN THIS TO SOMEONE WHO HAS NEVER HEARD OF IT?

If there is no interest, I don’t explain it. It’s good to take a wall at 200km/h!

.THE REMARK WHICH BLEW ME AWAY MOST WHEN I TALKED ABOUT IT

“The best thing is to forget that this concerns you, and kindly continue as before!”. Only a Muggle could pull off such nonsense! The worst is when it comes out of your mother’s mouth!

.HOW IT CHANGED MY LIFE (TO KNOW IT)

Access to my potential, Feeling in tune with myself (aligned, in harmony). Successfully obtained a master’s degree while in the kindergarten section I was told that I wouldn’t have even got my baccalaureate! In just 5 years I became a Branch Sale director. A more stable personal life, a desire to finally put down the baggage.

.WHAT I HAVE ALLOWED MYSELF TO DO EVER SINCE

I used to do it before, but in an impulsive and sometimes even dangerous way. Today everything (or almost everything) is much calmer, controlled… Well, not completely wise either 😉

.WHAT IT CREATES TO OTHERS WHEN I TALK ABOUT IT

Disinterest, jealousy, curiosity… it depends on the context and the psychological state of the person who asks.

.WHAT IRRITATES ME WITH GIFTEDNESS

I’m expected to be perfect. Besides the fact that it’s impossible, it’s really too boring 😉

.WHAT I WOULD LIKE TO EMPHASIZE ABOUT GIFTEDNESS

The opportunity for a better world… if the gifted person is kind…

.WHAT I PERSONALLY FIND TO BE THE MOST DIFFICULT

To not make it simpler to succeed in whatever I do.

.WHAT I PERSONALLY LOVE

To not be like everyone else and to live it well…

.MY SURVIVAL AND REBOUND STRATEGIES

Never end up where I presume…

.A (MIS)REPRESENTATION THAT I WANT TO CALL INTO QUESTION

The bulb head

.WHAT I WANT TO SAY TO GIFTED PEOPLE

It’s a real opportunity to be who we are. You have to accept it, play with it and make sure that you feel comfortable every day in your shoes! Life is too short!

.WHAT I WANT TO SAY TO PEOPLE WHO ARE NOT GIFTED

Accept the difference and everything will be fine. BTW, we’re all different ??? So that’s a piece of advice I’d give to Gifted people as well.

.WHAT I WOULD RECOMMEND TO SOMEONE WHO IS WONDERING

Reading books dealing with the subject, or at least reference books, undertake an IQ test if you feel the need, get in touch with professionals capable of accompanying the changes that are likely to take place.

.THE MISTAKE NOT TO MAKE FOR A GIFTED PERSON

Tell everyone!!!!

.MY PROFESSIONAL ADVICE FOR GIFTED

Keeping a low profile, the professional world is one of the least kind.

.MY PERSONAL ADVICE FOR GIFTED

Cultivate your giftedness in your secret garden and make it blossom tenderly with those you love.

.A BOOK TO READ ON THE SUBJECT

Cecile Boost. One or the other, they’re both to be read.

.MY OPINION ABOUT THE WAIS IQ TEST

To be done only if someone feels the need to move forward.

.IS IT A WASTE NOT TO KNOW THAT YOU ARE GIFTED?

Yeeeeeeessssss! It is a pre-requisite for personal development because it also means having the reading keys that will allow understanding and evolution in one’s environment.

.WHEN I MEET ANOTHER GIFTED PERSON, DO I RECOGNIZE HIM.HER? BY WHAT?

I recognise them very often. Quick to understand, they go beyond things more than others and in an atypical way.

.WHAT DO GIFTED PEOPLE HAVE IN COMMON?

Their common variants and invariants.

.AN INSPIRATION FROM ANOTHER COUNTRY ABOUT GIFTEDNESS

The choice of the word “Gifted” in English: giftedness is a gift.

(Note from Gloria : in French, it includes the idea of above, which is criticised by MANY).

.A HUNCH ON THE SUBJECT

Neuroscience will reveal secrets of giftedness that will amaze us. We’re just at the beginning of the journey.
